The Irony of Anglicanism: Episcopalians and Politics

[...] Now the Episcopal Church has found itself again in a pickle due mainly to secular politics. Political correctness is today in the U.S. what Republicanism was back in 1776. It is now as Republicanism was then, a movement by no means popular with the majority of the people, but one that happens to be very popular with a few powerful people. A few members of the Bishopric hold the “cause celeb” of government and church sanctioned homosexual rights to be far more important than what the majority of the people who fill the pews and the church coffers feel. When the church splinters, those dioceses in the Northeast and West Coast will follow their political convictions and embrace as a sacrament, homosexual marriage and be known as “Reformed” Episcopal or some such name. Those that do want to remain Episcopal but not “one of those” Episcopals will add, “Traditional” to their churches name. The biggest disputes will not be in ecclesiastic courts but in secular courts on who gets to keep what physical church building and who ends up worshiping in empty buildings. The empty buildings should not be a problem since there is an ever-increasing amount of empty factory buildings around the country. Read more
