Former Bp of Chelmsford urges civil partnership rights for synagogues, etc

Signed by a catalogue of the Great and Good of the liberal Anglican establishment. Strange is it not, for a letter signed by so many ordained priests, that it contains no theology at all.
Even stranger was the reference to the 1st Amendment of the US Constitution. Lord Alli's amendment in the Lords does precisely what the 1st Amendment regards as unconstitutional - it prohibits the free exercise of religion, or am I missing something here?
